Content: Resolved by the Chief Executive Officer That the: (i) The transition of the apprentices to temporary contracts as Gallery Assistant and Stage Crew, effective from April 2026 to March 2027 be approved. (ii) The job title be amended in this specific case from Gallery Assistant to National Portfolio Projects Assistant. Two apprentices funded through the National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) programme are nearing the completion of their apprenticeships in December 2024. While their current contracts extend until March 2026, they cannot remain employed as apprentices once their qualifications are complete. To ensure alignment with HR policies and operational needs, it is proposed to transition these apprentices into temporary contracts in roles equivalent to their apprenticeship levels: Gallery Assistant (Grade 2 FTE 1) Stage Crew (Grade 2 FTE 1) These temporary contracts will commence immediately upon completion of their apprenticeships and continue until the original contract end date of March 2026. This arrangement does not apply to the second Apprentice Technician, whose apprenticeship began in October 2024 and is due to conclude in March 2026. This approach ensures that the operational needs of the NPO programme are met without disruption. To avoid ambiguity and confusion with the core Gallery Assistant staff and to better reflect the remit of the role, it is proposed to change the job title for this post holder from Gallery Assistant to National Portfolio Projects Assistant. The roles are funded through external NPO funding and do not impact the Council’s general establishment budget. The NPO budget for Year 3 has been adjusted to accommodate the two post holders at Grade 2, with no additional financial strain expected. The status of the NPO Year 4 extension remains undetermined, pending the outcome of an ongoing application process. As with other NPO-funded roles, the contracts for these post holders will terminate in March 2026 unless extended due to additional funding. Redundancy for these positions was accounted for in the 2023 decision to increase the establishment for the NPO posts. None.
