Purpose: To recommend the endorsement of the UK Repair and Reuse Declaration
Content: The Community Services Environment Manager advised the report sought endorsement of the UK Repair and Reuse Declaration which was set up by Restart Project to help the tackle climate emergency by making electronical items more sustainable. It also lobbied legislators to make amendments to legislation to make it easier for electronics to be repaired. Proposed by Councillor Simkiss, seconded by Councillor Canning. Councillor Canning advised the declaration was an important statement and showing legislators the support for repair and reuse of items. Councillor Dutton explained the declaration was an opportunity to educate and encourage alternatives instead of using single use items. Councillor Watson agreed and added that it gave SDC the leverage to support actions, budgets and local repair and reuse options in the district. Councillor Turner-Wilkes confirmed her support and was pleased to move into the domestic market which would provide more options for the communities of the district. Councillor Simkiss advised of her support and hope that SDC could lead the way by setting an example. On being put to the vote, the Motion was carried unanimously. RESOLVED To approve the endorsement of the declaration on behalf of Stroud District Council.
