Purpose: Works to sports pitches via external contractor to improve drainage and playing surfaces, increased sports provision at Church Road, Thornton and purchase of ancillary equipment (line marking machine and football posts) to improve sports offer across the borough in response to community feedback.

Content: The Assistant Director of Environmental Services submitted a report to seek approval for improvements to council owned and managed sports pitches across the borough’s playing fields to improve the quality of the playing surface and the overall playing experience for our teams. Also, to request funding totalling £82,293 for improvements over the following two financial years, split as detailed below:   Decompaction works across 4 sites £23,540 Church Road contractor costs £32,500 Line marker equipment £3,808 Goal post purchase £14,341 Contingency @ 10% £8,104 Total: £82,293   and for the scheme to be added to the 2025/26 (£54,322) and 2026/27 (£27,971) revenue budgets.   Decisions   The Leisure, Health and Community Engagement Portfolio Holder agreed:   ·       That approval is given to undertake the necessary works to improve sports provision.   ·       That funding totalling £82,293 is awarded to undertake the works and the 2025/26 and 2026/27 revenue budgets are updated accordingly.
