Is Key Decision?: No
Is Callable In?: Yes
Purpose:
Content: Councillor J Kent introduced the report and stated that as Portfolio Holder he wanted to make sure the Charter is more than a piece of paper and will ensure that policies are reviewed on contract procurement and it is reviewed how the council can support the sector. Mark Tebbs was permitted to speak and commented that the voluntary sector is something Thurrock should be really proud of. The Charter is a really important symbol of partnership and the desire to work together. The sector is fragile and there are lots of concerns around funding. Twelve months has been spent co-producing the Charter and it has a lot of support across the sector. Councillor L Watson welcomed the report and commented that there are 4 parents in her ward who have trained themselves in food hygiene so that they can open a cafe. They would like to expand this to a meals on wheels service. There are others out there who want to do this and don’t know how to. Councillor L Worrall stated that Thurrock has always accepted the voluntary sector as equals, it is a great piece of work and she is happy to support it. RESOLVED: 2.1Cabinet agreed and endorsed the VCFSE Resilience Charter and agreed to ensure that appropriate steps are taken to ensure a One Council approach to supporting implementation.
