Decision Maker: Director of Environment and Sustainability

Outcome: Recommendations Approved

Is Key Decision?: No

Is Callable In?: No

Purpose: In line with the Decision Making Process outlined in Healthy Streets Transport schemes: Consultation and decision-making processes, this report seeks approval from the Director of Environment and Sustainability, following consultation with the Cabinet Member for Planning and a Sustainable Camden, to implement permanent proposals for Safe and Healthy Streets changes in the Glenmore Road and Howitt area. The proposals include measures that support walking via widening pavements, shortening the crossing distances at junctions, installing raised continuous crossings to promote pedestrian priority and making it more accessible for wheelchair users to cross at these junctions. The proposals also contain greening measures which would contribute to local biodiversity and climate resilience.   The recommendations in this report take into account relevant policies, existing data, an accessibility audit, a full public consultation on all proposals (undertaken between 27th February 2024 – 19th March 2024) and an Equality Impact Assessment (EqIA).   The proposals would help meet the objectives of We Make Camden by enabling more people to make their journey in Camden, easily and safely, on foot, by wheelchair or by bicycle. These proposals also supports Camden to be a green, clean, vibrant, accessible and sustainable place with everyone empowered to contribute to tackling the Climate Emergency.
