Purpose:

Content: The Demand and Supply Childcare Development Officer presented committee members with the annual childcare sufficiency assessment. The assessment confirmed that the Local Authority had met its statutory duty. The assessment covered the childcare market for Early Years and included the Holiday Activity Fund (HAF) programme for school holidays and wraparound childcare. The number of providers remained static from January to December 2024 with a small decline in childminders noted.   Committee members were advised that during 2024 the new working parent entitlement came into force with parents able to claim 15 hours childcare for children from 9 months to 2 years. Providers were supported to meet this need.   A short discussion was had around the role of Early Year providers to ensure children were ready to start in reception.   RESOLVED:   THAT the Committee, having been presented with the statutory childcare sufficiency assessment in Appendix 1, note the Local Authority had met its statutory duty to secure sufficient Early Years childcare for parents on the Isle of Wight.
