Decision Maker: Environment and Community Protection Committee
Outcome: Recommendations Approved
Is Key Decision?: No
Is Callable In?: No
Purpose:
Content: Approval was sought to approve the recommissioning of the beach cleansing contract after 31 March 2026 and the amendment of the specification. The specification was to be compiled with more of an outcomes-based approach so that beaches and slipways were cleaned at the right time, rather than at a set frequency. Confirmation was given that the beaches and slipways covered by the contract, and listed on the council’s website, were inspected on a monthly basis. A query was raised regarding historic landfill sites next to the coastline. Confirmation was given that there was currently no issue with these sites on the Island as most were inland. The Committee could monitor the future performance of the contract through the quarterly Performance Monitoring Report. After further discussion it was; RESOLVED: 1. That the Committee delegates authority to the Strategic Director for Community Services to develop a revised, outcome-based service specification and performance management framework that reflects the needs of the Isle of Wight. 2. This delegated authority will also enable the Strategic Director to direct officers to tender renewed services for the provision of the beach and slipway cleaning service over the period April 2026 to 31 March 2029 within a budget proposed budget of £300,652. In addition, that the Committee agree delegated authority to the Strategic Director of Community to award the contract following the conclusion of the proper procurement process.
