Purpose: Ipswich Borough Council requires a replacement Refuse Collection Vehicle for AY66 CYA which was deemed as beyond economical repair. This vehicle was on the list for replacement in 2025/26. The CCS Framework, RM6244 – Specialist Vehicles, has been used to identify suitable purchase route. This framework allows a direct award to our preferred supplier in our preferred specification, post system comparisons. The decision made is to procure an ex-demonstration, 2021, Refuse Collection Vehicle of the required specification post extensive testing within the refuse department from Renault RED at a total cost of £95,000.00 + VAT. This vehicle features and represents: - Fully Electric RCV – Ipswich First Owned Zero emissions RCV. - 74.64% Saving on brand new. - Is accompanied by an 8-year battery warranty covering the planned life of the vehicle. - Full 12-month Body and ancillary parts warranty. - DC Charge compatible for fast charging. This vehicle represents an immense opportunity for Ipswich Borough Council in terms of improving its Carbon Neutral Pledge progress. As the largest and most polluting vehicles, HGV’s are hardest to replace for cleaner versions due to cost, however as an ex-demonstrator, accompanied by a battery warranty which covers the anticipated and planned life of any RCV purchased new, at 50% the cost of a new diesel. Consultation has taken place and agreement received from the Council’s Director of Operations and Place, the Council’s Section 151 Officer and the Portfolio Holders for Resources and Environment & Transport.
