Purpose: The Council had the need to procure a 12 tonne Large Road Sweeping vehicle to replace the current ageing sweeper that has reached the end of its useful life and is costing quite a lot to keep running. This vehicle was on the list for replacement in 2025/26.   An exercise was undertaken through the TPPL Framework (TPPLHCCOP03 – Lot 4 – Pedestrian, Compact and Chassis Mounted Road Sweepers up to 12.5T Vehicle Purchase). The Scarab Merlin 62 was the winner in terms of performance, construction and pricing in comparison to others including the Johnson V65, Stocks S6400 and the Faun Zoller Viajet 5.   The purchase cost of the sweeper is £162,150.49 + VAT   This vehicle will represent the cleanest possible I.C.E variant of sweeper possible with a Euro 6 engine reducing CO2 emissions and further enhancing the Council’s Ultra Low / Zero emission %.
