Purpose:

Content: The TfSE were updating their existing strategy following consultation and consideration of feedback. The strategy aligned with the council’s own LTP4 strategy but covered a wider area. It was accepted that transport matters would be dealt with under a future mayoral authority as it was on a strategic level. Unitary authorities would be responsible for delivery. The strategy would help to bring attention from government and make the case for additional funding, boosting economic growth and prosperity for the island. Concern was expressed that IW ferries had not been included under Resilience Priorities, and it was explained that ‘resilience’ in this context related more to flooding. Cross-Solent connectivity was covered under a different category.   It was generally believed that being part of the TfSE would give the council a collective voice and a starting point to pursue funding from DfT, such as that which had been obtained for the Ryde Interchange project.   A link to the draft implementation plan would be shared with the Committee when available. The Economic Development Strategy would be presented to the Committee at a future meeting.   Members were disappointed that there was a lack of detail concerning the IW Ferries and landslips, however it was recommended that the strategy be approved.   RESOLVED:   That the Committee approves the TfSE Draft Transport Strategy attached at Appendix 1.
