Purpose:

Content: The Service Director for Environment and Waste gave an introduction to the report and a summary of the current position, the barriers encountered and how they were being addressed. A full strategic review would be forthcoming in October.   The cost to the council of pushing towards net zero was queried, as was the purpose of the Biosphere Steering Committee and any financial contribution from the council. In response, it was agreed that a costing would be circulated. Members noted that grants had been received which had enabled the council to install air source heat pumps, solar panels and motion sensor lighting in council buildings. It was confirmed that the Biosphere Steering Committee are a self-governing independent body with one council member sitting on that Committee.   RESOLVED:   That the Committee approve the inclusion and reporting of the information contained in the highlight report into a reviewed strategy for 2025 – 2040 which will be submitted to the Environment & Community Protection Committee in October 2025 for approval.
