Decision Maker: Cabinet
Outcome: Recommendations Approved
Is Key Decision?: Yes
Is Callable In?: No
Purpose: Commence procurement activity to procure a contract for a complete Interpretation, Translation and Transcription service for an initial 3 -year period from January 2026 with the option to extend the contract for a further period of up to 3 years.
Content: The Cabinet considered a report of the Executive Director (Strategy and Change) which sought approval to commence a procurement process for a fully managed Interpretation, Translation and Transcription service. Reason(s) for decision: An initial three-year contract with the option to extend it for up to three-years provides more opportunity to maintain continuity of service and fulfil its statutory duties. Cabinet is scheduled to consider the award of the contract in March 2026, with the anticipated commencement date of 1 April 2026. The contract will include an option to extend for up to three additional years beyond the initial three-year term, thereby enabling the Council to maintain continuity of service, subject to satisfactory performance. This approach supports operational stability and provides the flexibility to respond to potential developments arising from Local Government Reorganisation (LGR). Given these timeframes, it is impracticable to defer the decision as time is of the essence for the Council to have a contract in place. Resolved: That it be agreed, Cabinet: 1. Approves the procurement of a contract for a corporate Interpretation, Translations and Transcription service for an initial 3-year period, from April 2026 with the option to extend the contract for a further period of up to 3 years. This decision is not eligible for call-in.
