Purpose:

Content: To allocate the properties from Phase 4 of Thanet District Councils Affordable Homes programme, located at Staner Court, Ramsgate CT12 6HU, Clements Road, Ramsgate CT12 6UD, Tomlin Drive, Margate CT9 3XU and Dane Valley Arms, Margate CT9 3RZ in accordance with the Local Lettings Plan. Local lettings policies have been introduced to help maintain and promote a balanced and sustainable community, in line with the Kent Sustainable Communities Protocol. The Council has the power under s167 (2e) of the Housing Act 1996, as amended by the Homelessness Act 2002, to allocate particular accommodation to people of a particular description, whether or not they fall within the reasonable preference categories or not. Allocation of properties without a Local Lettings Plan, however this would not be in line with the Kent Sustainable Communities Protocol. It would also not necessarily enable the Council to create the balanced communities it seeks to and it would not afford an opportunity to those in temporary accommodation to move on, into sustainable tenancies where they are in a position to be able to do so.
