Purpose:

Content: The Committee noted a comprehensive update on the Council’s progress in delivering the action plan arising from the 2024 Local Government Association Corporate Peer Challenge, which was approved by the full Council in December 2024.   Members recalled that there were seven key recommendations, from the previous report which covered areas such as maintaining momentum on improvement (‘keep up the good work’), ensuring expert capacity for asset management, revisiting the Council’s Corporate Business Plan, addressing areas of underperformance, supporting political change, reviewing committee arrangements, and responding to the staff survey (‘My Experience Matters’).   Officers reported that nine of the 20 identified actions had been completed.  Six actions were now embedded as core, ongoing activity and were monitored through regular individual and team performance reviews.   Officers advised that there were two actions were due for completion by the end of the month.  These were the production of a new Corporate Business Plan, to take the authority up to the point of re-organisation, and the follow up Corporate Peer Challenge visit which was due to commence the day after the meeting.    Officers confirmed that after the visit, which would be a shorter programme of meetings and assessment, the LGA would issue a letter to the authority, which would be reported back to the Committee in due course.   Members were advised that due to local government reorganisation, a review of the Committee structure, Committees and Working Group arrangements had been stopped and one action around performance monitoring and service area plans was not yet due, although reports had been built into the Committee Forward Plan.   The Committee thanked everyone involved in delivering the CPC action plan, and Members agreed that strong and continuous improvement had been achieved.
