Purpose:
Content: The Committee considered a report on proposals for delivering consultation and engagement activities. The Deputy Director – Policy and Strategy presented the report and explained that the response rate for the 2024 Annual Survey and poor demographic representation had been a concern. Officers have therefore looked at alternative approaches for future consultation and engagement activities. A large-scale annual survey in the form previously undertaken was not considered a useful or effective exercise. It was proposed to replace this with a specific budget consultation and an annual review of targeted and service specific consultation, engagement and customer feedback undertaken throughout the year. Officers were of the view that this would provide a more useful insight, using more effective and appropriate methods. The Deputy Director responded to questions and comments from Committee Members. In the ensuing discussion, it was clarified that the proposal is for consultation to be prioritised and focussed. Services will not routinely undertake consultation as part of their annual service planning. Committee Members expressed support for the proposed approach. Several suggestions were made to encourage engagement and feedback, for example use of Google reviews and Trip Advisor, social media and seeking views from young people on specific topics via the Youth Engagement Team. RESOLVED: That the Committee approve the approach to delivering consultation and engagement activities as outlined in this report.
