Purpose: The purpose of this report is to request an additional 4 days capacity from the Independent Scrutineer to support with Safeguarding Reviews at a cost of £650 per day (fully inclusive).  The cost of £0.003m will be funded from the funding set aside for Children’s Social Care Improvement.  This proposal is in addition to the existing arrangement already in place where the Independent Scrutineer is engaged for 2 days per month.  

Content: The purpose of this report is to request an additional 4 days capacity from the Independent Scrutineer to support with Safeguarding Reviews at a cost of £650 per day (fully inclusive).  The cost of £0.003m will be funded from the funding set aside for Children’s Social Care Improvement.  This proposal is in addition to the existing arrangement already in place where the Independent Scrutineer is engaged for 2 days per month.   That the Interim Executive Director (Children’s Services) in consultation with the Executive Director (Resources) approves the engagement of the Independent Scrutineer of the Knowsley Children’s Safeguarding Partnership for an additional 4 days during November / December 2025. Safeguarding reviews need to be undertaken in a timely manner and therefore not engaging additional expert capacity is not an option.
