Decision Maker: Adult Social Care, Public Health and Housing Needs Committee
Outcome: Recommendations Approved
Is Key Decision?: No
Is Callable In?: No
Purpose:
Content: The Committee received a comprehensive presentation which outlined the arrangements between Inclusion Recovery Isle of Wight, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, and partners including Public Health, to develop joint care pathways to meet service users’ mental health and drug and/or alcohol needs. The committee asked if there was work that could be achieved at local level to identify and help with the prevention of these addictions, the Director of Public Health advised that the earliest intervention was key and the 1001 first day’s programme was a critical element to try to break cycles. It was noted that stress, trauma, poverty, poor housing and employment were also key triggers. It was noted that an increase in numbers could be seen as a success to the number of people accessing the services available, as GP’s provided support and signposted people to the services provided. A fifth pathway was evolving looking at life histories and identifying where intervention could have helped turn the situation around for people. The Committee suggested that secondary school children had been missed, they were advised that the inclusion team worked closely with schools and childhood experiences was a wider children’s agenda. The Director for Adult Social Care advised that commissioning was underway for a new area, and they were exploring the opportunity for a dry house on the Isle of Wight. The committee asked what the goal was going forward, the Director for Public Health advised that targets were important, and some were linked to commissioning targets. RESOLVED: THAT the presentation be noted.
