Is Key Decision?: No
Is Callable In?: Yes
Purpose: This Record of Decision relates to the approval given by the Director of Regeneration and Economic Development to advertise and, in the event that no objections are received, to proceed with the making of the Order. The TRO proposes to implement the following measures: (1) Nile Street, North Shields To introduce a permanent Bus Only Lane on the northbound carriageway of Nile Street, extending from its junction with Russell Street to its junction with West Street. This will replace the existing temporary Bus Lane restriction previously introduced under Experimental Traffic Regulation powers. (2) Benton Lane (A188), Benton – Southbound Carriageway To amend the existing Bus Only Lane restriction on the eastern side of the southbound carriageway of Benton Lane, from a point 46 metres south of its junction with Goathland Avenue, extending southwards for a distance of 135 metres. The primary purpose of this lane is to improve bus service reliability by enabling buses to access the Bus Gate and, consequently, the internal service road of the Four Lane Ends Interchange. The amendment removes the current exemptions for taxis, solo motorcycles, and authorised vehicles, ensuring the restriction aligns with the access arrangements into the Interchange and supports efficient bus operation. (3) Benton Lane (A188), Benton – Bus Gate To amend the Bus Gate restriction at the southern access to the Four Lane Ends Interchange internal access road by removing the exemptions for taxis, solo motorcycles, and authorised vehicles, ensuring consistent management of access and supporting reliable bus movements through the Interchange.
