Purpose: Purpose:?? To agree the proposed response to Huntingdonshire Local Plan (Regulation 18) Preferred Options consultation.?? ?? Huntingdonshire District Council is carrying out consultation on its Preferred Options between 5 November and 17 December 2025.??? ?? The consultation materials are available online: Preferred Options Draft Local Plan to 2046  - Huntingdonshire.gov.uk   Given the proximity of Huntingdonshire to South Cambridgeshire, the contents of the Huntingdonshire Local Plan could in principle impact on the emerging joint Greater Cambridge Local Plan, and a joint response from Greater Cambridge is recommended.?   Background:  Huntingdonshire District Council (HDC) are at the early stage of preparing a new Local Plan; having consulted on Issues and Options in April – July 2023 and Further Issues in September – November 2024, to which joint responses were made by Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council. HDC are now undertaking Preferred Options consultation.    The contents of the Huntingdonshire Local Plan (Regulation 18) Preferred Options consultation could in principle impact on Greater Cambridge and have implications for the emerging joint Greater Cambridge Local Plan. The proposed response seeks to minimise negative and maximise any positive impacts of Huntingdonshire’s Local Plan review on Greater Cambridge.     The Preferred Options consultation document is the first full draft of the Local Plan. The purpose of this stage is to offer the opportunity to comment on its contents. It is shaped by national policy and guidance and is based on evidence prepared and responses received to engagement undertaken so far.   The Local Plan sets out a strategy for Huntingdonshire to meet their development needs up to 2046, to shape how the district will evolve. The Preferred Options document includes details on the amount and type of housing HDC need to provide, the level and nature of employment opportunities needed to support the local economy and provide jobs for local people; and the type and amount of infrastructure needed to support this growth.

For the Joint Director for Planning to agree the response to the Huntingdonshire Local Plan (Regulation 18) Preferred Options consultation as set out in Appendix A.    To provide the Councils’ comments to this consultation in recognition of the opportunities it provides to influence the Huntingdonshire Local Plan.?  Option 1: Decide not to submit a response to the consultation   Reason for Rejection: the consultation offers the opportunity for the Council to make comments on a neighbouring local authority’s Local Plan to ensure the Council’s interests are appropriately represented. The Council is also a statutory consultee and Duty to Cooperate body in the plan making process.
