Purpose: Freeman /Freewomen of Borough

Content: A report was presented to Members to confer honorary titles under section 249 of the Local Government Act 1972.   Officers confirmed amendments to Recommendations 1 and 2, and that Recommendation 3 had been withdrawn. Recommendations 1 and 2 now state as follows:   R1. It be recommended at a special meeting of council, that, in pursuance of section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972 and in recognition of being a person of distinction and a person who has, in the opinion of the Council, rendered eminent services to the Borough, the Council admits Barry Maurice William Hearn OBE to be Honorary Freeman of the Borough.   R2. It be recommended at a special meeting of council that, in pursuance of section 249(5) of the Local Government Act 1972 and in recognition of being a person of distinction and a person who has, in the opinion of the Council, rendered eminent services to the Borough, the Council admits Fatima Whitbread MBE to be Honorary Freewomen of the Borough. Members expressed their support for both candidates nominated for honorary titles. Cllr Aspinell MOVED and Cllr Parker SECONDED recommendations 2 and 3 in the report. A vote was taken on a show of hands and it was RESOLVED UNANIMOULSY.   Cllr Barrett MOVED and Cllr Murphy SECONDED recommendations 2 and 3 in the report. A vote was taken on a show of hands and it was RESOLVED UNANIMOULSY.   R1.
