Purpose:
Content: Consideration was given to the update on the Council’s Budget 2026/27, including the implications of the Provisional Local Government Finance Settlement, the assumptions within the Medium Term Financial Strategy, and the proposal to commence internal consultation with employees and trade unions on the draft revenue savings proposals for 2026/27 as part of the budget planning process. The report also outlined the statutory redundancy consultation associated with workforce budget proposals and provided an overview of the current financial position, funding uncertainties and the next steps prior to confirmation of the final settlement in February 2026. RESOLVED: i) That the update to the funding position, including the outcome of the Provisional Local Government Finance Settlement set out in Appendix 1, be noted. ii) That the update on the 2026/27 budget planning process be noted. iii) That the response to the Government consultation on the Provisional Local Government Finance Settlement included at Appendix 2 be noted. iv) That approval be given to the commencement of internal consultation with employees and trade unions on workforce related budget proposals for 2026/27 as detailed in Appendix 3. The above decision was made for the following reasons: a) To contribute to the good financial management practice of the Council. b) To assist the financial sustainability of the Council over the medium to long term. c) To support delivery of the Council’s Corporate Plan priorities and the Thrive objectives.
