Content: 2 REGISTRATION FOR EMPLOYER SUPPORTED POLICING SCHEME – The Director: Transformation and Outcomes submitted a report giving an overview of the Employer Supported Policing Scheme and seeking approval for the council to register to join the scheme. Employer Supported Policing was a national scheme owned by the Home Office. It was a partnership benefiting employers, their staff and the police service by releasing Special Constables and Police Support Volunteers to volunteer in the communities they served. The scheme required employers to support employees who were, or would like to become, a Special Constable or Police Support Volunteer by allowing them some paid leave to undertake their duties or training. The scheme did not specify a minimum or maximum amount of paid leave that should be given, it was whatever was deemed acceptable to the employer. Benefits of registering for the scheme included: · Demonstrating support for council employees and the local community. · Contributing to the council’s social responsibility objectives. · Enhancing the council’s reputation and profile within the local community and as an employer. · Facilitating employees to volunteer in a role which offers transferable training and skills. · Increasing reassurance to the community through more visible policing. · Providing police forces with greater resources for reducing crime. The report gave details of how to register to join the scheme and how it would work in practice. Resolved – That the proposal to register to join the Employer Supported Policing Scheme be approved.
