Decision Maker: Cabinet

Outcome:

Is Key Decision?: Yes

Is Callable In?: Yes

Purpose: The report is requesting approval to go out to tender for insurance services for the council.

Content: RESOLVED:   That Cabinet   1.     Agreed to procure council wide insurance contracts (excluding property) for a term of four years with an optional two-year extension.   2.     Delegated authority to the Strategic Director, Resources to award the contracts.   3.     Delegated authority to the Strategic Director, Resources to exercise the two-year extension options.   REASONS FOR DECISION AND OPTIONS CONSIDERED:   1.     The council needs adequate insurance in place to protect against significant financial losses from unexpected events.  Acting as a financial safety net, shifting the burden of major financial risks from the council to the insurer.   2.     It is not possible to insource insurance cover, as the principal is to protect the council from material financial and/or operational risk. Deductible levels (this is the equivalent of excess on personal property or car insurance) will be explored as part of the tender. It’s a legal requirement to have motor insurance.
