Purpose: This report sets out to measure current banking and post office provision and access to cash in Brentwood Borough against national standards and ascertain long term plans for maintenance of access from central/regional Post Office and major banks/building societies.

Content: The report presented to the Committee outlined an assessment of current banking and Post Office provision within Brentwood Borough, comparing local access to cash against national standards, and identifying the long?term plans of central/regional Post Office services and major banks/building societies. Following discussion, Members expressed dissatisfaction with the level of banking and Post Office provision and counter service across the Borough. The Chair, Cllr Haigh, proposed the removal of Recommendation 1 and MOVED a replacement recommendation, which was SECONDED by Cllr Gorton. The new recommendation was: R1.  Request Officers re- review the report and bring back to a future meeting to include the items as suggested by committee and in the meantime write a letter to the post office.   A vote was taken by a show of hands and it was RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY that a:   R1.  Request Officers re- review the report and bring back to a future meeting to include the items as suggested by committee and in the meantime write a letter to the post office.
