Is Key Decision?: Yes

Purpose:

Content: Consideration was given to the report which sought to note a change request to the approved costs for repairs to the Maidens Walk Coal Drops, to accept grant funding from the North East Combined Authority, and to delegate authority to progress delivery of the repairs scheme to a Grade II listed structure that forms a key part of the Gateshead Quays public realm and regeneration proposals.   RESOLVED: i)                 Cabinet agreed to accept the grant and delegated authority to the Director of Finance to sign the grant funding agreement. ii)                Cabinet delegated authority to the Strategic Director of Economy, Innovation and Growth to appoint the relevant Consultants for RIBA Stages 2 to 4. iii)              Cabinet noted that approval would be sought at a later date, through a separate Cabinet report, for the Council to enter into a construction contract likely to exceed the constitutional procurement threshold once a tender has been obtained at RIBA Stage 4.   The above decision was made for the following reasons: a)                 To enable delivery of the repairs scheme within scope, timescales and budget. b)                 To ensure that the Council has funding to deliver its priorities as identified in the Corporate Plan and the Council’s Capital Programme.
