Purpose:

Content: Consideration was given to the report which sought Cabinet approval to allocate grant funding to Citizens Advice Gateshead for the financial year 2026/27, to enable the continuation of information, advice and guidance services while a framework for the structured delivery of such services in Gateshead is developed, and to support the Council’s approach to tackling poverty, improving financial resilience and addressing health inequalities.   RESOLVED: i)                 Cabinet approved the award of grant funding of £1,056,000 to Citizens Advice Gateshead to enable continuation of services during 2026/27, and authorised the Chief Legal Officer, Corporate Services and Governance to determine appropriate terms of a grant funding agreement between the Council and Citizens Advice Gateshead for this purpose. ii)                Cabinet noted the development of the framework for structured delivery of information, advice and guidance services in Gateshead and the identification of funding via the Crisis Resilience Fund as the Council’s investment in resilience services.   The above decision was made for the following reasons: a)                 To enable the award of funding through provision of a grant agreement to Citizens Advice Gateshead. b)                 To support the Council’s appropriate investment of Crisis Resilience Funding, contributing towards improving the financial resilience of residents of Gateshead and towards achievement of outcomes required from the Crisis Resilience Fund, namely empowering residents to better manage financial shocks and mitigate the occurrence, recurrence and escalation of crises, and strengthening resilience networks within local communities, ensuring there are clear referral pathways between them and crisis support.
