Purpose: Merton’s highway network is the single most valuable asset that the council owns, valued at £8.8 billion. It includes 370 kilometres of carriageways and 617 kilometres of footways. Each year we inspect Merton's roads and pavements to develop a four-year rolling investment plan.This report seeks Cabinet approval for the delivery of the 2026/27 Highway Capital Work Programme totalling £4.144 million.

Content: RESOLVED:   Cabinet is asked to:   A. Approve the capital expenditure of £5.316m for the delivery of the 2026/27 Work Programme consisting of carriageway and footway renewal works, street lighting improvements, and bridges and structures work as identified in Appendices 1,2,3, and 4 subject to the provision that the overall budget is not exceeded and that the Cabinet Member is consulted on any significant changes.   B. Delegate authority to the Executive Director for Environment, Civic Pride & Climate in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Transport and Cleaner Streets to make minor amendments to Work Programme.
