Purpose:

Content: The Director of Community Services submitted a report seeking Committee’s support for public and stakeholder consultation on the draft waste strategy for Lancashire prior to its adoption by all Lancashire Councils later that year. This is following agreement by Lancashire Leaders and Chief Executives to proceed to consultation.   Adopting a new waste strategy was necessary for all Lancashire Authorities. It would ensure compliance with the Environment Act 2021 and prepare the Council for significant financial and operational changes in the waste sector. Launching the consultation allowed the council to engage with residents on the critical changes and ensure the local implementation plan was robust and responsive to resident’s needs.   The report also provided details of the consultation process, the implications for Ribble Valley of mandatory service changes, and the incoming financial mechanisms which would alter the cost base of the waste service.   RESOLVED THAT COMMITTEE:   Supported the public consultation on a new Waste Strategy for Lancashire.
