Purpose: 2026 is the year of the 250th anniversary of the St Leger in Doncaster, a hugely significant event for the people and place. The reason for this decision is: • The project will mark an event that is of importance to the Doncaster economy and Doncaster communities. • The project brings together expertise from Heritage Doncaster, Get Doncaster Moving and Visit Doncaster. • The project will engage a new audience with the heritage of the horse racing in Doncaster. • The project will protect heritage at risk. • The project will contribute to the delivery of the Doncaster Culture Strategy. • Heritage Doncaster will be more resilient through the development of staff skills and capabilities. • The investment will continue to build a strong relationship with a key funder (National Lottery Heritage Fund). • Marking the 250th anniversary will safeguard built and living heritage. Heritage Fund requires an element of partnership funding. This has been secured from ARC (Doncaster Racecourse) (£25,000) and City of Doncaster Council via the Doncaster Feasibility Fund (£25,000).
