Purpose: To set out Breckland's proposals to grow its support for the Armed Forces Community, including a new grant funding scheme.

Content: RESOLVED that:   1)    Cabinet notes the success that Breckland has had in supporting the Armed Forces Community within the district.   2)    Cabinet endorses the proposed Programme of Support for the Armed Forces Community as set out in Appendix A   3)    Cabinet establishes the Armed Forces Community Fund as set out in the proposed Prospectus in Appendix B   4)    Cabinet delegates authority to the Executive Member for Economic Development &Growth, in consultation with the Assistant Director for Economic Development, to assess and approve grant applications.   Breckland Council should be proud of the positive work that has been delivered in support of the Armed Forces Community, and the recommendations allow the Council to go build upon this work and achieve even more.   The Programme of Support sets out a positive vision as to how support for the Armed Forces Community can be expanded within the district, ensuring that residents, as well as employees from the Community, are supported.   An Armed Forces Community Fund would allow Breckland to fund activity within the district that supports the Armed Forces Community and raises awareness of the contributions that they make.   Previous funding schemes that have been centred around specific anniversaries in the Armed Forces calendar have been well received. Creation of this Fund would allow organisations to access funding to deliver projects all year round and not tied to a specific event or anniversary. Option 1 – That Cabinet notes the success that Breckland have had in supporting the Armed Forces Community, endorses the proposed Programme of Support and establishes the Armed Forces Community Fund   Option 2 -Do Nothing – Meaning that the proposed Programme of Support is not approved and the Armed Forces Community Fund is not established.
