Outcome:

Is Key Decision?: Yes

Is Callable In?: No

Purpose:

Content: 8.1 The Chief Executive submitted a report setting out the progress the Council has made in 2025 towards meeting our Equality Objectives. Our new Communities Strategy is embedding local voices and community partnership in everything we do. Our services are helping to make Sheffield fairer, from employability initiatives for disabled people, to tackling violence against women and girls. We are supporting more diverse local businesses, and we are continuing to increase the diversity of our workforce, so it better reflects the city we serve. The report acknowledges there is more work to do. It includes some of our priorities for the next year as we work to create a city where we can all belong and thrive. This includes our work to develop more diverse leadership and progression opportunities for our staff, plans to embed clearer performance reporting on outcomes for residents, and preparations to celebrate 20 years since Sheffield became the UK’s first city of sanctuary.     8.2 RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY: That Strategy and Resources Policy Committee note the contents of the 2025 Annual Equality Report, specifically:   •         Progress made in meeting our Statutory Equality Duties •         Progress made and challenges against the Equality Objectives •         Progress made and challenges in our People Data Report •         Gender, Race and Disability Pay Gap information.     8.3 Reasons for Decision     8.3.1 The Annual Equality Report 2025 helps to meet the specific duty to publish information on an annual basis which demonstrates how we are meeting our statutory duties under the Equality Act 2010 and associated Public Sector Duties (PSED).      8.4 Alternatives Considered and Rejected     8.4.1 The do-nothing option was discounted as we have a specific duty to publish information on an annual basis to demonstrate how we are meeting the Duties under the Equality Act 2010 and associated Public Sector Duties (PSED). This includes publishing information relating to citizens and employees with protected characteristics to ensure we continue to create a fairer city for all.
