Is Key Decision?: Yes

Is Callable In?: Yes

Purpose: The Community Parenting Strategy sets out Tameside’s commitment to fulfilling our responsibilities to children and young people in our care and to care leavers. It outlines the principles and expectations that ensure they receive the support, opportunities and care that any good parent would provide.   The strategy is underpinned by our Heart of Support Practice Approach, which informs how we build relationships, understand lived experiences and work alongside children, young people and families. Embedding this approach strengthens our focus on promoting safety, wellbeing and positive outcomes.   The new Community Parenting Strategy 2026–2029 has been developed in close collaboration with children and young people. The completed strategy is presented within this report for consideration and approval.   The strategy has been renamed from the Corporate Parenting Strategy to the Community Parenting Strategy to reflect a renewed emphasis on placing children and young people at the heart of our community. The new title reinforces the shared responsibility across the community to support, care for and champion our cared for children and care leavers. In line with this shift, the Corporate Parenting Board has also been renamed the Community Parenting Board, ensuring the governance arrangements reflect and support the changes set out in the strategy.
