Purpose: Newcastle Discovery and the Laing Gallery are owned by the City Council. They are well-used and much-admired for the quality of their programming and their work with children and young people and disadvantaged communities. They are a key driver of the visitor economy in the city and contribute to the authority’s Inclusive Economy and Anti-poverty priorities. Urgent capital work is required at both venues if the authority is to ensure the safety of staff and the public and maintain compliance with equalities legislation. Approval is sought to implement the work described within the report. Larger individual projects, or grouped projects for each location as outlined in 4.1 of the report will submit a PEP when the schemes are further developed.

Content: It is recommended that authorisation is granted for the work described in paragraph 4.1 of the report to be undertaken immediately.
