Purpose:

Content: Consideration was given to the progress made in preparing the South of Tyne and Wear Local Nature Recovery Strategy and the next steps required to move towards adoption. The report sought Cabinet agreement to proposed updates following consultation and to commence the statutory confirmation period with Supporting Authorities.   RESOLVED: i)                 Cabinet noted the progress made in preparing the South of Tyne and Wear Local Nature Recovery Strategy. ii)                Cabinet approved the proposed updates to the draft Strategy, as set out in the Schedule of Changes, and agreed to begin the 28 day statutory period with Supporting Authorities. iii)              Cabinet delegated authority to the Service Director for Climate Change, Compliance, Planning and Transport, in consultation with the relevant Cabinet Member, to adopt and publish the final Strategy once confirmation is received from all Supporting Authorities, and to make any minor, non material changes prior to publication.   The above decision was made for the following reasons: a)                 To ensure compliance with the Environment Act 2021 and progress the Strategy to adoption and publication. b)                 To allow flexibility to address final technical refinements without unnecessary delay.
