Purpose:
Content: Consideration was given to the submission of the MetroGreen Area Action Plan for independent examination. The report sought Cabinet approval to progress the Area Action Plan as part of Gateshead’s Local Plan, including noting consultation outcomes, authorising submission to the Secretary of State and enabling the examination process to proceed. RESOLVED: i) Cabinet noted the Consultation Statement April 2026, which includes proposed minor modifications, as set out in Appendix 2. ii) Cabinet authorised formal submission of the MetroGreen Area Action Plan Local Plan document, as set out in Appendix 3, and associated submission documentation to the Secretary of State pursuant to Regulation 22 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012. iii) Cabinet granted authority to the Inspector appointed to hold the public examination to make modifications to the MetroGreen Area Action Plan Submission Document under Section 20(7C) of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, as amended. iv) Cabinet delegated authority to the Service Director for Climate Change, Compliance, Planning and Transport and the Strategic Director of Legal and Corporate Services, in consultation with the relevant Cabinet Member, to make changes to the MetroGreen Area Action Plan and supporting documentation, prepare and give evidence in support of the examination and carry out consultation on any modifications recommended by the Planning Inspector. The above decision was made for the following reason: a) To progress the development of Gateshead’s Local Plan as required by government policy and statutory obligations under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, the Localism Act 2011 and the Town and Country Planning (Local Plans) Regulations 2012, as amended.
