Content: To provide an update on the progress made by officers regarding the next stage of the Jackey Bakers Recreation Ground Multi-Sports Hub project. The project aims to develop a comprehensive multi-sport site including a new car park, pavilion with changing facilities, and various sporting and recreational enhancements informed by extensive community engagement. Cabinet approved the following:   1.  The south side of Jackey Bakers Recreation Ground is explored as the location of the new multi-sport hub site;   2.  The community engagement findings are used to inform the project scope;   3.  The Head of Coastal and Public Realm continues to:   a)  engage with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) on potential funding opportunities for the inclusion of covered tennis courts and padel courts in the project.   b)  engage with British Cycling on potential funding opportunities for the inclusion of a pump track and walking/cycling route around the recreation ground.   c)  maximise opportunities for community play, recreation and physical activity within the project. The decision supports the ambition to transform Jackey Bakers into a multi-sport hub that meets local community needs. The "South Option" for the site location was identified as the preferred choice through community engagement, as it allows for the retention of more grass pitches and the potential restoration of the athletics track as a community asset. Furthermore, the engagement results highlight a strong desire for facilities that are safe and accessible for young people, women, and girls. The alternative option was for the Council to not undertake any further improvement of Jackey Bakers Recreation Ground. This was rejected as it would not serve the best interests of the local community or the wider users of the sporting facilities, particularly given the poor condition of previous infrastructure and the clear demand for improved recreational space.
