Content: 8 REWET, REWILD, RECONNECT - RIPARIAN REVIVAL IN NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE PROJECT – The Director: Communities submitted a report seeking approval for the distribution of a community questionnaire to determine local appetite for progressing the Rewet, Rewild, Reconnect: Riparian Revival for North Lincolnshire project. North Lincolnshire had experienced significant historic alteration and loss of watercourses, ponds and riparian corridors, resulting in reduced biodiversity, increased flood risk and a weakening of community connection to local landscapes. The council through the Strategic Flood Risk Team, had been exploring the potential for a place-based riparian restoration and community engagement project that would address these issues through nature-based solutions, education and volunteering, delivered with external funding support. The proposed project at Barton upon Humber had been developed to an early, exploratory stage. A literature review had already been completed, evidencing the environmental, flood risk and social benefits of riparian restoration. Barton upon Humber Town Council had also expressed support in principle and a desire for the project to be explored further within its area. Before any decision was taken to progress the project, it was essential that the council established whether there was a genuine community interest and support. The questionnaire provided a proportionate and transparent mechanism for residents to express their views on riparian restoration, accessibility, education, heritage and community involvement. The questionnaire formed one of three key pieces of evidence required to demonstrate need, demand and community alignment. The three components were the completed literature review, formal support from Barton Town Council, and feedback from residents and local stakeholders obtained through the questionnaire. Collectively, these provided a balanced evidence base combining academic research, local democratic endorsement and direct community input. Should the questionnaire demonstrate clear community support, the council would be in a position to consider progressing to the next stage, as set out in the report. Resolved – That distribution of the community questionnaire to determine local appetite for progressing the Rewet, Rewild, Reconnect: Riparian Revival for North Lincolnshire project, be approved.
