[email protected] The Portfolio Holder for Transport, Highways & Road Safety approved the increase in the total project budget for the Anerley Hill Bus Lane scheme from £300k to £737k. The Portfolio Holder approved the delegation of any further minor changes in costs or design of the proposed scheme to The Director of Environment & Public Protection, in consultation with the Portfolio Holder for Transport, Highways & Road Safety. The core bus lane measures were assessed and approved in 2024 as part of a wider package of corridor improvements, including pedestrian crossings and associated works. The report therefore requested approval to vary the previously approved cost to enable the scheme to be delivered. The Portfolio Holder was agreeable to making this decision, as although the cost had increased to £737k, the revised cost included contributions from the TfL Bus Priority and Safer Corridors and Neighbourhoods (SCN) programmes, as set out in the Financial Implications section of the report. The Portfolio Holder made this decision because the scheme supported the delivery of bus lane measures on Anerley Hill, enhancing bus reliability and journey time improvements. In addition, targeted pedestrian safety enhancements were included where they provide clear corridor?wide benefits. The final design and the costs of the scheme were shared at a meeting with the Portfolio Holder and Ward Members for Crystal Palace and Anerley. All three Councillors were content that the scheme still met the objectives originally set out and approved in the previous report and the draft design, and that the final estimated costs were acceptable for what they delivered. Funding was available in the current financial year, so the scheme needed to be passed to the highways contractor in May 2026, in order to be programmed for delivery at a suitable time of the year, within the 2026/27 funding period. Any delay to the decision would make this unlikely and funding might therefore be lost.
