Purpose:
Content: Motion A – Protecting Somerset’s Visitor Economy and Rejecting a Holiday Tax Councillor Bob Filmer seconded by Councillor Dingwall withdrew this motion. Motion B – Urgent Action to Improve SEND Assessment Timelines. Councillor Faye Purbrick proposed the recommendations, which were seconded by Councillor Bill Revans. Having been duly proposed and seconded, the Council Resolved to:- 1) Recognise that Somerset Council is currently failing to meet its statutory duty on EHCNA timeliness and commit to urgent improvement. 2) Call on the Executive to support the proposal set out by officers for a 12-month plan in order to cut the current backlog, significantly reduce waiting times, and improve timeliness towards at least 40% within 12 months. 3) Request from the Executive that the necessary funding is brought forward to deliver this plan, estimated at approximately £1.3-£1.4 million, with funding options to include the Corporate Contingency. 4) Request from the service regular reporting to Children, Families and Education Scrutiny on progress against delivery, including backlog reduction and improvements in timeliness.
