Purpose: This report will update the Council’s timetable for the preparation of the Horsham District Local Plan

Content: RESOLVED   i)               That the Local Development Scheme 2026 – 2027 attached as Appendix 1 be approved.   ii)              That the Local Development Scheme is to have effect from 21 May 2026.   REASONS   i)               Local Planning Authorities are under a legal duty to prepare and maintain a document setting out the programme for the preparation of planning documents. The Council’s current LDS was published in February 2025 and has since become out of date due to a prolonged delay in the examination of the Local Plan.   ii)              It is a legal requirement that the local planning authority must formally resolve to bring the LDS into effect and to specify the date for this.     ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS CONSIDERED BUT REJECTED AS IDENTIFIED IN THE REPORT   Under the duties conferred on the Council by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (as amended), the Council must produce and maintain an LDS. There is no other legal course of action available.
