Purpose:
Content: That the District Council award through grant funding £20,000 to the Parenting Project for continuation of their work in Upper Lighthorne to support Lighthorne Heath Primary School and residents. Lighthorne Heath Primary School previously approached Stratford-on-Avon District Council because of an increase in children attending the school due to the expansion of housing in the local area. A number of these children were from households with additional needs/ challenges that required support which the school was finding challenging to meet. Often these were families housed through the Council’s housing allocations process. From this an action was added to the Growing Opportunities Plan 23-35 to support the school and local community if funding could be obtained. Funding was sourced through SDC and the UKPF fund to enable the Parenting Project to deliver a Family Wellbeing Facilitator operating in the school and a Counselling service supporting parents. The Parenting Project have worked with the school and parents to deliver this work throughout 25/26. With the new Primary School planned for Upper Lighthorne not being built until approx. 2028 there is a need to continue this support. SDC has allocated £20,000 in its budget for 26/27 to continue this work. Supporting the school and community is in the Growing Opportunities Plan Action 26-29 reference actions 5.26-5.27. Several factors have been taken into account and the following has been considered in reaching this decision: Whether the budget allows for these grant awards. Whether the organisation is appropriately qualified to undertake this work. Whether these organisations delivered this work within the district and effectively with the 2026/27 award. Whether this work is aligned with the Growing Opportunities and Council Plans. Whether a need exists for this activity and spending. The answer to all these questions is ‘yes’.
