Purpose:
Content: The Cabinet Member with the Economy Portfolio introduced the report (previously circulated) of the Executive Director of Economy and Public Protection to report the outcomes of the consultation on the draft Homes Strategy and the proposed changes to be made and seek too Council of the approval to recommend the final versions of the Homes Strategy is adopted. It also seeks further delegated authority for the Executive Director of Economy and Public Protection, in consultation with the Economy Portfolio Holder and Health and Housing Portfolio Holder, to allow minor editorial amendments to the Homes Strategy prior to publication. The report explained that the draft Homes Strategy 2026-2031 provides a framework for the actions of the Council and it partners with regards to housing. The focus of the strategy is to provide high quality homes across all tenures, meeting local needs and addressing the borough’s housing challenges. It is designed to inform officers, members, partners, key stakeholders and residents of the approach and priorities on a range of housing matters. The report stated that the strategy sets a high-level vision, and three key objectives focused around building new homes, especially affordable and social homes, improving standards, meeting the needs of our ageing population and supporting people to live independently. The document also included an action plan which set out the outcomes which they aim to achieve over the next five years. RESOLVED - It is recommended that:- (a) Members consider the comments received on the draft Homes Strategy and the changes proposed and recommend to Council the adoption of the final version of the document found at APPENDIX 1. (b) Delegate authority to the Executive Director of Economy and Public Protection, in consultation with the Economy Portfolio Holder and Health and Housing Portfolio Holder, to allow minor editorial amendments to the Homes Strategy prior to publication. REASON - The recommendation is supported as the Homes Strategy will provide a clear framework for the Council’s strategic direction and actions on housing matters.
