Content: 5.1        In accordance with the provisions of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, the Committee was asked to note the appointments made by the full Council on 22 May 2026, to appoint a chair of the Electoral Review Panel, fill vacancies on the Member Development Group and to appoint members to the outside body for which the Committee is responsible in accordance with the wishes expressed by the political groups (report by the Executive Director of Law, Assurance and Insight appended to the signed minutes).   5.2        The Head of Democratic Services reassured the Committee that if political groups were not yet in a position to make nominations to the fill the vacancies these could be filled either at full Council in July or at the next meeting of the Governance Committee in September. Members said that would be helpful as, following the election, group leaders were still having discussions with members of their groups about appointments.   5.3        In response to a question, the Head of Democratic Services confirmed that appointments to South East Employers do not have to be politically proportionate. Cllr Sparkes volunteered to sit on South East Employers and the proposal was agreed by the Committee.   5.4        Resolved –   (1)         That Cllr Sparkes be appointed to South East Employers; and   (2)         That the remaining vacancies be filled at either the full Council meeting in July or the next meeting of the Governance Committee.
