Purpose: To address the increasing demand for special educational needs (SEN) provision, East Sussex County Council plan to create extra specialist facility places through new and expanded facilities in primary and secondary schools. To support the strategy, an expression of interest from Heathfield Community College to expand its existing specialist facility from 12 places to 20 places was approved. The proposed remodelling and small extension will provide the necessary SEN space to accommodate 8 additional SEN places. The majority of works will be undertaken during the 2026 summer vacation, with the remainder being undertaken in the 2026-27 Autumn term. The Chief Operating Officer considered the appointment of a building contractor for the main contract to deliver the building works at the Heathfield Community College to expand their Special Educational Needs provision.
