Purpose:
Content: The Director of Resources submitted a report presenting Committee with a draft lobbying letter to the Rt Hon Rachel Reeves, Chancellor of the Exchequer with regard to reviewing and reducing the rates of fuel duty and VAT, and to raise this matter in Parliament advocating for urgent action to make fuel more affordable for all. Members considered the draft letter appended to the report and agreed that the section entitled Fuel Pressures on Households should be amended to refer not only to households, but also to small businesses and rural farms, as these are similarly affected. RESOLVED THAT COMMITTEE: Approve the letter at Appendix 1 of the report to use the Council's influence to lobby Government on the issue of reviewing and reducing fuel duty and VAT rates in the UK.
