Purpose:
Content: To contract Staffordshire Mechanical Solutions (SMS) to replace two condemned boilers with modern condensing equivalents, with associated replacement pump sets and flue. A new flue is needed because of the change to condensing boilers. Associated electrical, builders and controls work is also required. There are currently three boilers, the two that have been condemned and a third condensing boiler that was installed in 2023.The boilers supply hot water to the heating system only – Domestic Hot Water is supplied by two calorifiers. The two new boilers will operate in cascade with the 2023 boiler as they are the same type and manufacturer. Urgency of providing heating for the winter in Elizabeth House. The extent of the work needed is higher than expected and lead times require the work to be commenced with extreme urgency to the amount of work and lead in times for manufacture and installation. 1. Award to SMS 2. Tendering the work but this will leave Elizabeth House without heating throughout the winter, so not a viable option.
