Purpose: Creative and cultural grant programme
Content: The ‘A Place for Culture Fund 2026’ is the first grant funding allocated to support priorities outlined in A Place for Culture - the borough’s creative and cultural strategy for 2025-2030. The fund, totalling £30,000, is allocated within existing budgets and grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 were available for projects that met the criteria derived from the strategy’s priorities. The fund was open for applications from 25 March to 5 May 2026. A second tranche of funding will be available in 2027. The report before Members sets out the provisional allocation of the 2026 funding, as detailed in Appendix A, and seeks approval to delegate authority for the final determination of grant expenditure for the 2027 programme to the Director of Communities and Health, in consultation with the Chair of the Housing, Health and Community Committee. Mrs Anderson presented the report. Cllr Rigby requested that when promoting these opportunities the Council social media platforms and the Borough Magazine be utilised to enable the widest number of residents the opportunity to take part. Cllr Dr Barrett MOVED and Cllr Laplain SECONDED the recommendations in the report. A vote was taken by a show of hands and Members RESOLVED UNANIMOUSLY: R.1. The committee approves the recommended allocation of the 2026 grants as set out in Appendix A. R.2. The committee approves delegated authority for the final determination of grant expenditure for the 2027 programme to the Director of Communities and Health, in consultation with the Chair of the Housing, Health and Community Committee, with an update provided to the relevant committee.
