Decision Maker: Lead Cabinet Member for Environmental Services and Licensing

Outcome: Recommendations Approved

Is Key Decision?: No

Is Callable In?: Yes

Purpose: The purpose of this decision is to sign off the revised Contaminated Land Strategy.   This Strategy provides an update on the 2001 strategy and explains how the Council will implement the contaminated land regime from 2024 onwards. This revised strategy takes account of the latest guidance, experience over the past two decades and the resources available to the Council.   Background Under the 2001 Strategy all areas of potentially contaminated land across the district have been identified and prioritised, with detailed inspection of the very highest risk sites completed.  Due to the amount of growth within South Cambridgeshire, the number of brownfield sites that have also been, or are due to be, developed under planning controls is significant. This provides an opportunity to secure voluntary assessment and remediation where necessary.
