Purpose: Section 86 of the Local Government Act 1972 requires that, where a vacancy occurs due to the death of a councillor, the authority has a duty to declare a vacancy as soon as practicable. Paragraph 1.25 of the officer scheme of delegation authorises the Chief Executive to declare any vacancy in office under Section 86 of the Local Government Act 1972. Pursuant to this decision being made, a notice of casual vacancy will be published on the Council's website as soon as practicable.
