Content: To award a temporary 2 year contract to Age UK Manchester for the delivery of Home from Hospital, commencing 1 July 2026 The Strategic Director Adult Social Service agrees to award a temporary 2 year contract to Age UK for the delivery of Home from Hospital. The Council had previously run a competitive procurement for this contract and a previous key decision to award was made in September 2025 and published accordingly (2025/07/18A). For technical procurement reasons, the Council had to unexpectedly stop the procurement and the intended award. Officers then worked to deliver a shorter (two year) temporary contract with Age UK – one of the original providers – providing the best proposal to provide a shorter-term contract. The outcome of those discussions is a decision is to award the temporary contract to Age UK, which is a new key decision. The net cost to the Council is £88,000 per annum, with NHS funding the majority of the contract (just under £335,000 per annum). Currently Age UK is the only provider in the city and a delay would seriously prejudice the interest of the residents of Manchester as it would impact on continuity of provision for Manchester residents. As such the Chair of health Scrutiny, Councillor Curley, has agreed to the urgency of this Key Decision being taken in less than the 28 day publication period and has also agreed to exempt the decision from Call In.
